Press Release Body = DENVER (Sept. 13, 2006)-In honor of the country's Sept. 18 observation of Constitution Day, Jones International University® (JIU®) has produced dramatic readings of key messages in U.S. history that influenced both the creation of the Constitution and the subsequent amendments to it. The collected podcasts, "In Their Own Words," are located at http://constitution.jiu.edu and have been made available at no charge, giving educators and students open access to them. The podcasts are a permanent feature on the website, can be bookmarked and will be supplemented with new podcasts in the future.
JIU's seven, inaugural podcasts celebrating the Constitution feature professional actors whose presentations include Benjamin Franklin's address to the Constitutional Convention; Thomas Jefferson's thoughts on the new Constitution (what he liked and what he didn't); James Madison's case for the Bill of Rights; and a speech by Susan B. Anthony advocating women's right to vote.
"We wanted to stress the fact that the Constitution is a vibrant document by giving voice to its framers," said JIU President David E. Leasure. "No one can listen to these podcasts without recognizing the passion and intelligence behind every word, and the students who hear them will come away with a deeper and more meaningful understanding of what shaped the foundation of this country."
